Rumor Blog

Something as simple as buying a bottle of water from the corner never seemed dangerous right. Apparently someone posted a video and photo of a few cases of water brought at a Walmart and there were bubbles at the top of the bottles. This got turned all around in a rumor saying don't buy bottle water someone is injecting poison into them and people are dying.
This rumor is completely false. In the social media post no states were mention but the city "Richmond."
"suggesting that the rumor may have started as a riff on a 3 March 2018 Facebook post purporting to offer photographic proof that the caps of nearly all of the bottles of water in a shrink-wrapped package purchased at in Bennington, Vermont had been pierced with a pin, needle, or similar sharp object. The following is the link to the actual Facebook posting. " (snopes) https://us-east-1.tchyn.io/snopes-production/uploads/2018/03/bottled-water-bennington.jpg
". Richmond, CA was contacted and they did no know anything about it. Richmond, VA was also contacted but the call was never returned. It all started by a Facebook post
In relation to Knapp's classification this rumor would be classified as a bogie. This rumor touches on conspiracy plots by suggestion that someone is poisoning bottle water, however this also causes fear and anxiety. Yes this rumor does meet Knapp's good qualities of a rumor. The reasons why are that they are unsure of the state that it is happing, its short and simple, makes a good story and is also easily distorted.
The rumor encourages the shared human sense by trying to make others aware of bottled water being injected with poison.

  1. I must say this is very scary for me because all I drink is water. I know that the rumor isn't true, but you never know now days, people are crazy and mean. I do remember hearing about this rumor, along with reese's cup getting injected with poison. I just don't understand why there are such cruel people in this world, that would want to kill or sicken someone.

  3. I drink that water a lot, and so it hits home. I'm glad it wasn't true, and that it was just something that was fabricated. This rumor reminds me of why parents check Halloween candy for their kids, there are people that are malicious enough to want to cause harm to others.
